Legatio

Frequently asked questions

Here we tell you what we're aiming for with Legatio and answer the questions that come up most often.

If you have more personal questions, the ones that don't fit on a FAQ page, use the WhatsApp button below and we'll work through them together.

What exactly is Legatio?

Legatio captures your life, memories, advice, letters for your loved ones, through WhatsApp, and crafts it into a book made with care: chapters, narrative flow, rhythm, editorial craft. But told in your voice, your usual way, your words, your accent, your expressions. You'll recognize every line as your own; your children will read you. You build it at your own pace, no rush, and you decide when to generate your book and give it to your people, in life, whenever you choose. And in case life doesn't wait, you set up a safety net for heirs that makes sure it reaches them anyway. No installs, no forms.

How is this different from writing my memoirs on my own?

You don't have to sit down and write. You speak (or type) when you have a moment. The bot asks, listens, sorts. You don't decide structure, chapters or order, that's on us. You just tell. The difference with a notebook in a drawer is that this reaches your children composed, cared for, readable, with a beginning and an end.

Who is Legatio for?

Anyone who wants to leave more than material inheritance. Parents who've thought "I should tell them how it all really was", grandparents who want their grandchildren to truly know them, couples who want things said between them, people who've lived their share and don't want it lost. You don't need to have done something extraordinary, you need to have lived.

How much time do I have to put into it?

Whatever you want. Some people spend ten minutes on a Sunday and an hour another day. There's no calendar, no homework. The bot accompanies you, sometimes throws a new question, but you set the pace. You can go months without saying anything and come back. The only thing, the more you tell, the richer the book.

What kind of things do I tell it?

Whatever you want. Childhood memories, stories, defining moments, lessons learned the hard way, how you met your partner, what you thought the day your first child was born, what your father told you when you left home, what advice you'd give your granddaughter when she's 25. The bot suggests topics if you go blank, but you can also tell whatever you feel like without being prompted.

Can I send audio or only text?

Text and audio. Whatever you find comfortable. Some days are for typing, others for talking. We transcribe audio respecting how you say things, without "fixing" your way of speaking. If you said it with filler words or jumping topics, that's how it stays; the editorial craft we apply when composing the book, not in censoring who you are.

What if I get stuck and don't know what to tell?

That's what the bot is for. If you've been quiet for days, it asks you a concrete, not abstract, question: "tell me about your first job", "what did your mother do when she got angry", "describe your kitchen when you were little". The questions are designed to open doors, not to test you.

Can I see my book and give it while I'm alive?

Yes, that's exactly the idea. At any time you can ask us to generate your book with everything you've told up to that day, laid out and ready. The prologue is free, once, when you begin. After that, each time you decide to generate an edition of the full book it's €49 (one generation, no matter how many people you give it to). You generate it whenever you want: to read yourself, to give it to your children in life, or for a special occasion. And since your life doesn't stop, later on you can generate a new and better edition, with everything you've kept telling.

And the prologue?

The prologue is free, once. It's the first thing we compose for you once you've accumulated a minimum of material, so you can read yourself written for the first time. If later on you want the full book, you generate an edition (€49) with everything you've told so far, reordered and laid out, ready to give to whoever you want.

How will my children receive the book?

Usually you give it to them yourself, in life: you generate the edition you want and hand it over, as a laid-out PDF, ready to read or print. If you prefer, the safety net for heirs takes care of it: each heir receives the book by email, the common version for everyone, plus any private letters you left within their copy. If they want it on paper, they can print it or take it to a print shop. We may offer print-on-demand as an additional service in the future; today it's not part of the included service.

Will the book be short, long, do you decide?

The book is as long as your material allows. If you've told a lot, it'll be long. If you've told little, it'll be brief but composed with the same care. There's no minimum or maximum. What is guaranteed is that layout, rhythm and editing are the same in either case, editorial craft, not a message dump.

Can I leave messages only for one of my heirs?

Yes. You can mark what you tell us as a private letter for a specific heir. That letter only appears in that person's copy, other heirs don't see it. Each heir receives the common version for everyone, plus their own private letters. Unlimited letters, no extra cost, all included in the fee.

What we don't do today is scheduled delivery by dates or events (like "this letter is delivered on her wedding day"). You're the one who decides when to generate and deliver the book; there's no automatic delivery calendar.

How many heirs can I name?

As many as you want. No limit. Children, partner, siblings, close friends, grandchildren. Each one receives their copy when you give it to them, or through the safety net for heirs if something happens before you do. You can add or remove heirs anytime; you're always in control.

Do my heirs need to use WhatsApp too?

No, they need nothing. You use WhatsApp to tell your story. When you decide to give it to them, or if the safety net for heirs ever kicks in, they receive the book by email (the address you gave us when you named them). If any of them is on WhatsApp, we can also notify them there.

How does the safety net for heirs work?

It's the safety net in case life doesn't give you time to deliver the book yourself. When you designate your heirs, we let them know you've started your book and that, if something ever happens to you, they hold the key to generate the final edition and receive it. We never assume anything: the alert comes from an heir. When they raise it, we write to you by WhatsApp and email and you have 30 days to reply and stop the process. A single reply from you is enough. Only if you don't reply within that period do we generate the final edition and deliver it to your heirs. That final edition is included and closes the service.

What if it's triggered by mistake or in bad faith?

You have 30 days to reply to the WhatsApp and email notices. One reply on either channel is enough to cancel the process and block that attempt. If someone tries to abuse it, you'll know before anyone else and stop it with a message. And you can always remove someone as heir if you realize they weren't as trustworthy.

What if an heir passes before I do?

You remove them as heir from the chat with the bot or you let us know. The private letters you addressed to them you can leave as is (they stay in the archive, not delivered to anyone else) or redirect to another heir. You decide.

Are my audios and data safe?

Yes. Everything is encrypted on European servers, GDPR-compliant. Only you have access, and, if the safety net for heirs ever kicks in, only the people you named. Nobody else reads your material to train models, sell to advertisers or anything like that. It's your life and it stays with you. If you decide to erase everything, we do it within 30 days of your request, no questions.

Who reads what I tell? Are humans looking?

Material processing is automated, there's no team of writers reading you. When the book is composed, it's composed only from what you've left. The only thing a human might see, and only if you ask, is if there's a technical issue we need to review with you. In that case we tell you first.

Do you use AI? Do you make things up?

Yes, we use language models to compose the book from what you tell, the way a human editor would use scissors and glue. But we only work with your material. We order it, link it and shape it into chapters. No inventing stories you didn't tell, no filling gaps with AI. If you didn't say it, it doesn't appear. If you have doubts about a specific line, ask for the literal transcript and we'll show you.

How much does it cost?

Annual fee of €119 or monthly fee of €15 (VAT included), no signup payment. Annual works out to under €10/month and saves you around €60 vs monthly. The fee keeps your story alive and growing and the safety net for heirs active, and includes the prologue (free, once, when you begin) and all private letters for your heirs at no extra cost.

Each time you decide to generate an edition of your book to deliver it, it's €49 per generation (no matter how many heirs you give it to). The final edition, the one the safety net for heirs delivers if something happens before you do it yourself, is included.

There's a couple plan (€199/year or €25/month, two linked accounts, you save €39/year vs two individuals) and a gift plan (€119/year, annual only, you pay, the account is in your father or mother's name).

What if they want it printed, not just as a PDF?

There is a premium printed edition that the heir can request at the moment of delivery. It's a separate service paid by whoever orders it, not part of the author's annual fee. €129 per copy (VAT and shipping within Spain included, international +€20). Each heir decides whether they want theirs, no minimum run.

Specification: A5 soft cover, matte coated 250 gsm cover, offset 80 gsm interior, black and white, up to 350 pages. Cover with the author's name, the title and one of our editorial templates.

The laid-out PDF by email is still included in the author's fee. The printed book is an optional upgrade for whoever wants the object on the bookshelf at home.

Are there extras or hidden fees?

No hidden fees. The only optional, and only if you ask: generate editions of your book whenever you want (€49 each). The prologue, on the other hand, is free, once, when you begin. Private letters, the final edition from the safety net, encrypted storage, all of that is in the fee.

What if one day I stop paying?

The service pauses, nothing is deleted. While it's paused, the safety net for heirs is switched off and you can't keep adding, but the editions you already generated are yours forever. You have 90 days to resume the subscription; nothing is lost during that time. If after those 90 days you decide not to continue, before deleting anything we send you by WhatsApp or email (you choose) a PDF with all your literal transcripts and the messages you left, raw. Uncomposed, unstyled. What you said, exactly as you said it. Yours.
